On Saturday, March 13, Vincennes University suffered a great loss with the death of Laura Nardine, 46, and her husband Christopher, 47. Laura had been a part-time faculty member at Vincennes University for the past fifteen years. Nardine was a Professor of Family and Consumer Sciences. She also taught Fashion Merchandising.
"She will be greatly missed. She was a friend, a dedicated teacher, and will be missed by all her students," said Lou Ann Lindsey, Professor and Chair of Family and Consumer Sciences.
The Nardines had two sons, Zach and Shane. Zach is a Fashion major at VU. Shane is a student at Lincoln High School.
Beside her faculty position, Nardine also owned Scruples on Main Street in VIncennes. Her shop offered her fashion students an opportunity to display their clothing in the windows of the business. Nardine was named Co-President of the Central Business District of downtown Vincennes this year.
She developed the Visual Merchandising program which includes the displays featured in the Humanities Building.
Nardine can be credited with her trips to Indianapolis and Chicago for her fashion design students. The students would go on a two-day trip to the Indianapolis Women's, Infant's, and Children's Apparel Market. These trips would allow the students to see how store owners would buy merchandise for their businesses. Then every fall semester Nardine took her students to a fashion seminar in Chicago.
"Her love and knowledge of fashion was inspiring to the students," said Lindsey.
In a news release by Professor McClure and Lindsey, "Mrs. Nardine was a loyal and dedicated faculty member of the VU FACS department for the past 15 years. She was a devoted teacher, mentor, and friend."
